From Persist Student to Persist Coach: Welcome Juan Escamilla Vargas
We are excited to welcome Juan Escamilla Vargas to the Persist Coaching team as our newest College Persistence Coach.
Juan’s connection to Persist began long before his first day as a staff member. He was once a Persist student himself, navigating college and experiencing firsthand the difference it can make to have someone in your corner. Throughout his postsecondary journey, Persist provided the encouragement, connection, and support designed to help students stay focused on their goals and keep moving toward graduation.
That journey led Juan to Belmont University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Educational Policy, minored in History, and participated in the Global Honors program.
Now, Juan’s story with Persist is coming full circle.
As a College Persistence Coach, he will use both his education and his personal experience to support students who are navigating many of the same challenges and milestones he once faced. Juan understands firsthand how meaningful a relationship with a supportive coach can be, and he is passionate about helping students feel connected, confident, and equipped to reach their goals.
Juan’s transition from Persist student to college graduate to Persist coach represents exactly what we hope for our students: not only completing their education, but discovering opportunities to use their experiences, talents, and education to make an impact.
And when he is not supporting students, you might find Juan playing ultimate frisbee or chess, or listening to Paramore.
